5G – The Nordic Approach and the Future of Society

On September 20th, the Nordic business associations in Singapore – Finnish Business Council (FBC) Singapore, Norwegian Business Association Singapore (NBAS), Danish Business Association of Singapore (DABS) and Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Singapore (SWEDCHAM) jointly organised an in-person event focused on ‘5G – The Nordic Approach and the Future of Society’.

Nordic companies are playing a crucial role in the future evolution of Asia’s productivity and growth. Companies are working to bring security and trusted 5G connectivity and new innovative solutions for consumers and businesses while preparing at the same time citizen to adapt to new skills to reap the benefit of the 4th industrial revolution and the 5G disruption.

The event shared insights on various dimensions and impacts of 5G on our society. The technology disruption of networks is massive and is only starting with further evolution. This network is now the backbone of our physical world and brings new opportunities for industries and end-users. Nevertheless, it is crucial for a sustainable future to integrate a social and environmental dimension into our vision. Reducing energy consumption and new skills will need to be included in any national strategy.

Nordic Innovation House Singapore is honoured to be part of this learning journey about 5G in the Nordics and Singapore and gained valuable insights from IMDA, Ericsson, Telenor, Nokia, Singtel, and Aalto Executive Education Academy. Read on to find out what went on behind the scenes!

All four Nordic Ambassadors to Singapore were present to support the event and participating 5G Nordic companies. Opening the programme with welcome words by the Ambassador of Finland, H.E. Antti Vänskä and an introduction by the Ambassador of Sweden, H.E. Kent Härstedt.

Special appearance and keynote speech by Mr Chuen Hong Lew, Chief Executive Officer of Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) elaborating on Singapore’s digital readiness, perspective on 5G and international collaborations, and the digital future of Asia.

Then a series of 5G presentations by representatives from the Nordic countries (Ericsson, Telenor, Nokia, Singtel, and Aalto Executive Education Academy) delivered thoughts about the multi-dimensional aspects of 5G with a specific focus on technology, people, industry, sustainability, and skills.

A short Q & A moderated by Mr Pasi Haatainen, Chairman of Finnnish Business Council Singapore and many applause to Mr Leonard Opitz Stornes, President of NBAS and Managing Director of NHST Media Group Asia as the emcee.

The eventful night ended with great vibes and tons of face-to-face networking opportunity among the Nordic Ambassadors, speakers, attendees and organisers at HUONE.
