Icelandic Networking Reception in Singapore at the National Gallery
On November 9th, Nordic Innovation House Singapore was cordially invited to the Iceland-Singapore networking reception and had the honour to meet H.E. Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir, the Icelandic Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation during her working visit to Singapore! The attendance was accompanied by a delegation of 23 Icelandic educators and industry leaders, H.E. Stefán Haukur Jóhannesson (Ambassador of Iceland to Singapore), Mr Petur Oskarsson (Chief Executive Officer, Business Iceland), and fellow local partners in Singapore. It was a fruitful evening for Iceland and Singapore innovation community to foster new connections, collaborations and knowledge sharing to bring the bridge closer between the two young nations in sectors such as education and trade industry.

She Loves Tech Global Conference 2022
In the same week, H.E. Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir attended and participated as a speaker at She Loves Tech Global Conference 2022, Asia's Flagship Conference for Women and Tech. She joined Sim Ann (Senior Minister of State, Ministry of National Development Singapore and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Singapore), both women in power and politics to share their aspirations in the ministry and how tech could empower women in the future generations.

From the Arctic to the Equator – Great Strides in Women Empowerment and Technology – here are some key takeaways from the fireside chat.

  • H.E. Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir expressed politics in Iceland was a calling: "I'm a young woman in a sea of 50+ year old men!"

  • Senior Minister of State Sim Ann commented: "In Singapore, I knew I had no right to critique if I did not participate."

  • A key issue raised was Digital Violence against women. We need:

  • Male solidarity,

  • Legal tools against sex crimes,

  • Regulation in tech and activism, and

  • AI ethics to regulate gender bias and low-resource languages.

During the opening keynote: Daring to Be, Senior Minister of State Sim Ann added these three highlights in her speech.

  1. Tech is a morally agnostic tool with the power to grow and harm women. To use tech and better serve women, Singapore has launched initiatives such as digital safety certificates and online victim support.

  2. We need to build capital pipelines for female founders.

  3. Partners are pivotal.
