Big Picture, Capital Tower

As Gold Partner for CapitaLand Sustainability X Challenge 2022, Nordic Innovation House Singapore congratulates CapitaLand and Plug & Play APAC on another successful edition! Our team is pleased to attend the Demo Day in Singapore to witness the top 10 finalists pitch their innovations (out of 350 applications from 50 countries) that can make buildings more climate-resilient and resource-efficient in the built environment sector.

Demo Day started with opening remarks by Mr Manohar Khiatani, Senior Executive Director of CapitaLand Investments and the finalists' pitches judged by an esteemed panel of international industry leaders and investors including Temasek, Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities (SUTD), CapitaLand Investment, GGV Venture, Golden Gate Ventures, Rocky Mountain Institute, and RSK Group. Each finalist was evaluated based on the Innovation, Impact and Scalability of the solutions and integration capabilities within CapitaLand properties.

Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment, and Manpower, Singapore, Dr Koh Poh Koo, Guest of Honour, highlighted the importance of achieving our net-zero ambitions, and how to transit into a low carbon future with the 3Rs - REDUCE our carbon footprints, REPLACE fossil fuels with green energy, and REMOVE carbon dioxide atmosphere to offset energy efficiency. He spoke about investing in carbon credit, carbon capture and storage.

The plenary session on 'Transition to Net Zero in the Built Environment' with Mr Frederick Teo (Chief Executive Officer of GenZero), Ms Marie Cheong (Founding Partner of Wavemaker Impact) was moderated by Ms Lynette Leong (Chief Executive Officer, Environment, Social & Governance (ESG) Funds & Stewardship of CapitaLand Investment) - where topics on climate tech, investments, commercialisation, talent, environmental impact, and long-term action plans around built environment were passionately discussed.

Ms Marie Cheong emphasised in order to make a real change today, we need to change our behaviour, invest differently and think differently. Adding on, Mr Frederick Teo believes in practising a holistic approach towards net-zero transition, and optimism in the young generation will be the change and the talent we will have tomorrow.

The evening ended on a high note where the judges granted all ten finalists with S$50,000 prize money each to fund their pilots, and three special recognition Awards went to:

  • High Impact Award: Cleanair.ai with its ALVI CleanAir Safety System provides buildings with HEPA-class air quality

  • Most Innovative Award: Enexor BioEnergy with its renewable energy system that can convert any combination of waste

  • Carbon Action Hero Award: Sunman Energy with the world’s first glass-free, lightweight and flexible solar panel.

Great work to the rest of the companies – Maini Renewables, SlideLuvre, Loh and Sons Paint Co (S) Pte Ltd (in partnership with SolCold Ltd), Passive Edge Tech, Ecoflow, WI.Plat, and Hydroleap on this journey!
