This year, the Nordic Innovation House Singapore (NIH-SG) theme on Circular Economy aims to support and provide Nordic companies with an opportunity to expand their foothold in Singapore and Southeast Asia. Organised by NIH-SG and its core Trade Promotion Offices (TPOs) from Innovation Norway, Business Sweden, Embassy of Finland, and Business Iceland, the NIH-SG Water-Waste-Food Virtual Market Entry Programme 2021 is a three-phase programme that involves partnering with key players managing and seeking solutions in the water, waste and food waste sector. The selected Nordic companies will be addressing multiple problem statements gathered from the participating partners. Furthermore, adopting and unifying #nordicmade technology-driven solutions to transform Singapore and Southeast Asia environmental industry into cleaner, sustainable and more liveable cities.

In Phase 1, we have organised two partner introduction webinars for Nordic companies to understand the water-waste-food challenges and business opportunities in Singapore and Southeast Asia.
• Introduction to ADB Ventures & UNDP Global Centre → Recorded Webinar: https://youtu.be/LfbvvixfOT4
• Introduction to Sembcorp Industries → Recorded Webinar: https://youtu.be/Mk3gm6F-vEw

In Phase 2, we will onboard the selected Nordic companies with preparation webinars to equip them with a better understanding of the problem statements and backgrounds of each stakeholder. Discuss the market positioning to help elevate their pitch.

In Phase 3, the actual two-week programme (Week 1: April 19-23, Week 2: April 26-30) will enable the selected companies to engage in a series of group showcase session with the participating partners, investor pitching session, and 1-to-1 business matchmaking appointments upon request.

Group 2: Organic Waste

Solutions include
• Waste to fertiliser
• Food waste segregation
• Waste to biogas

N2 Applied.jpg

N2 Applied
Website: www.n2.no

N2 Applied aims to fundamentally improve global food production by increasing yield and reducing emissions. It has developed a patented technology that enables farmers to produce their own fertiliser using slurry or digestate, air, and electricity. Currently, N2 is installing semi-commercial units on pilot farms, preparing for commercialisation in Q4 2021. N2 Applied’s solution is a processing unit upgrading organic substrates to efficient fertiliser by adding nitrogen from the air. The process reduces climate emissions: CO2 and methane. The result is a liquid nitrogen fertiliser providing the same yield as chemical fertiliser, at a competitive cost. The reaction also stops ammonia emissions from livestock slurry. Ammonia contributes to the formation of particulate matter (PM2.5), the most harmful form of air pollution, the N2 technology consequently reduces air pollution which is harmful to human health. In this WWF programme, they will team up with REKLIMA – their major innovation is to utilise CO₂ from biogas production as a resource in food production. 40% of the gas produced in the biogas plant is CO₂. Instead of being released into the atmosphere, it is used in greenhouses to enhance photosynthesis. This is a smart and cost-effective form of direct CO₂ capture, which provides better productivity and profitability.

They have developed a technical solution to effectively remove floating debris from river systems and a value creation model that can support local livelihoods and economic development. RiverRecycle's unique business model to bring all stakeholders together to clean up the environment; River cleaning as a free service! Riverrecycle has created its own proprietary technology for collecting plastic waste away from the river. The collectors concentrate the floating debris which is then lifted from the river and transported to a pyrolysis factory, where it is turned into oil and sold to off-takers. For the model to work, Riverrecycle gathers a coalition of partners and establishes a local network to run the operation according to Riverrecycle’s principles. While offering the affected population's infrastructure to turn an ecological problem into an economic opportunity, we also invest in waste management infrastructure.
