GREEN ENERGY

The Nordic Council of Ministers has set a vision that the Nordic region will become “the most sustainable and integrated region in the world” by 2030. This includes:

  • A competitive Nordic region: to promote green growth based on knowledge, innovation, mobility and digital integration.

  • A green Nordic region: to promote green transition of its societies and work towards carbon neutrality, sustainable circular and bio-based economy.

  • A socially sustainable Nordic region: to promote an inclusive, equal and interconnected region with shared values and strengthened cultural exchange and welfare.

The industrial sector for green energy technologies is booming globally and the Nordic region is well positioned to lead the energy transition with the right resources, innovation, knowledge and skills. At a global level, the Nordic region has ambitious goals to reduce CO2 emissions and live up to the Paris Agreement in 2030 as well, including reducing energy-related emissions, increasing energy efficiency, reducing the use of fossil fuels, and creating new growth industries based on green technology.

Within the framework of the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Nordic Energy Research is the platform for cooperative energy research and policy development. Learn more about the Nordic interest that supports these ambitions by expanding your knowledge of sustainable energy and contributing to the development of new, competitive energy solutions.

The Nordic region has proven to be the global leader in building a green and sustainable future. The MTI Technology Review Insights: Green Future Index 2022 has placed all five Nordic countries in the top 10 for their ability to develop a sustainable and low-carbon future. Out of 76 nations, the Nordic countries achieved high scores in the following five pillars: Carbon emissions, Energy transition, Green society, Clean innovation, and Climate Policy.

NORDIC INNOVATION HOUSE SINGAPORE ACTIVITIES UNDER GREEN ENERGY

Nordic Green 2022: Green Transition and Energy Resilience
On October 26th, Nordic Innovation House Singapore hosted its annual Nordic Green conference during energy week in Singapore. This year, the theme was 'Green Transition and Energy Resilience’ focused on carbon-neutral ambitions, experiences with green energy transition and striving for energy resilience in the Nordics and Southeast Asia region. Our Nordic Ambassadors and panel of energy industry leaders shared their perspectives on energy solutions and investments for transitions to a greener grid, energy research and development, cutting-edge technologies for future energy efficiency, and fostering international cooperation for new opportunities.

Nordic Green 2022 was made possible through a partnership between Nordic Innovation House, the Nordic Embassies and Trade Promotion offices in Singapore, with funding support from Nordic Talks.

Nordic Green 2021: Reducing Our Carbon Footprints
October 28th – In this Nordic Green, we brought together Nordic Ambassadors to Singapore and leading Nordic companies (IKEA, Neste, Rystad Energy, Meniga, Hempel) in the Asia Pacific to discuss and learn more about their commitment to a clear transition pathway for global carbon reduction by 2030. Some key learnings included:

  • The Nordic experiences and challenges in building a sustainable future.

  • International cooperation in the environmental footprint agenda.

  • Nordic innovations addressing carbon footprints which are relevant for Singapore and Southeast Asia.

Nordic Green 2020 Conference
October 29th – In this Nordic Green, we learnt how Nordic experiences in regional energy collaboration can support addressing challenges in Southeast Asia through an exchange of concepts, technologies and policies by companies, research communities and governments. Agenda included:

  • Session 1: Regional cooperation as a key to addressing national challenges (Moderator: Eco-Business, Speakers: Rainmaking, Wärtsilä, DNV GL – Energy, ABB SEA, Yara International)

    • Addressing the necessity of, and providing examples of how regional and international cooperation enables effective solutions to common challenges on decarbonization, deployment of renewable energy, waste to value and circular economy.

  • Session 2 - Electricity System Integration (Moderator: PwC Singapore, Speakers: Nord Pool Consulting, ASEAN Centre for Energy Indonesia, Vestas Singapore, Ohm Energy Pte Ltd Singapore, Aalto University)

    • This session addresses regional electricity integration, with cases from the Nordic electricity system integration, the importance of interconnected energy infrastructures for the deployment of renewable energy and discusses prospects for the regional energy systems in ASEAN.
