Looking in the rearview mirror – January 2015!

Wow, it has been a very hectic and fun month for Nordic Innovation House and it is hard to believe that we recently celebrated Christmas and Happy New Year.

The Norwegian startup, Activetainment, launched their product with great success.

First week of January all spotlights were zooming in on Las Vegas and The Consumer Electronics Show (CES). With 160.000 visitors, this is by far the world's largest annual trade show. CES 2015 had the equivalent of 35 football fields, filled with phones, televisions, smart watches, washing machines and innovation-hungry people trying to see it all.

As representatives for the Nordic Innovation House, Arne Tonning and Petter Brovig gathered the Nordic community and offered support to Nordic Tech start-ups attending the show. Read the full summary from CES here.

Half way into the conference, they arranged a social event for Nordic start-ups and investors, enabling some much needed R&R for the hard working attendees. This event proved very successful and will hopefully generate new leads and opportunities for the ones who were present.

In the middle of January the Swedish Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel visited Silicon Valley for a 3 day long trip organized and designed by Vinnova and Anne Lidgard, supported by the Swedish Consulate General in San Francisco (GK-SF).

The purpose of their visit was to study entrepreneurship, and to meet with Nordic Tech startups. They visited several innovative companies and incubators in the Valley like: Runway, Y Combinator, Stripe, Tesla Motors, Stanford University and d.school, Google and Facebook. The last day they stopped by the Nordic Innovation House for lunch, to meet with our startups and to conduct a “round table discussion” about the importance and dynamics of our hub serving Nordic Startups coming to Silicon Valley.

During their visit we had the opportunity to organize an evening reception with focus on: “The Nordics and Silicon Valley – From Startup to Success”. This event was held at the Computer History Museum with 190 guests. FOX TV showed up, and they did a 4 minute long coverage about the evening.

In addition to these great happenings, we are excited to hear from so many Nordic startups that want to join our Nordic community. During January, 9 new companies signed up as members: Koosli, Scale.VC, itclarifies, Blix Solutions, Beddit, Vivaldi, Alertsec, Digoshen and WebOn. By the way, did you know that we now have 86 companies as members at Nordic Innovation House and over 300 visitors every month?

Last but not least, we ended the month with a nice article in our own local newspaper; Palo Alto Weekly.  The name of the article is:
“Creating a community for Nordic startups – Nordic Innovation House leverages Silicon Valley's tech community, expertise to offer business guidance”

Now we are turning pages and we accelerate into February. It will be interesting to see what kind of innovations Silicon Valley will hit the world with…. From the Nordic Innovation House’s perspective, this is an important month since we are expanding with further space and adding 1866 square feet on 444 Ramona St to our incubator.  Would you like to join us? Shot an email to Yvonne, and she will tell you more about Nordic Innovation House.

More to look forward to - in the beginning of March, we will announce the startups that have passed the screening process and will attend the next batch of TINC. Tech INCubator (TINC) is a four-week technology incubator program in Silicon Valley for high potential Nordic startups.

Many people are passing by our facility (since we have one of the best locations in Palo Alto) and they are curios about “The House”. You are more than welcome to stop by and please also keep in touch with us through; Facebook  Twitter  Webpage Nordic Innovation House
